Join us in this three-part online virtual series utilizing the Zoom Video Conferencing platform as we delve into the practicalities of resilience, using time tested techniques from permaculture, Pacific Island wisdom, and sustainable agriculture. Whether you reside on a rural homestead or in an apartment complex, there is an array of options to increase self-reliance for yourself, your loved ones, and our larger community. Topics for “Part 1: FOOD RESILIENCE” will include: resilience self-assessment, FAST food production strategies, nutrient-dense fruits/vegetables, immune-supporting protocols, edible wild plants, and more! Zach Mermel of Ola Design Group will teach the second in a series of virtual workshops, Secrets of the Soil: DIY Strategies for Soil Regeneration on Saturday, June 13, 2020, from 9am – 12pm. How is soil formed? What organisms reside within it? What are the different soil types on Hawaii island? Ever wondered how to make compost that your plants will devour like dessert? Join us as we explore strategies for dramatically enhancing the life-giving properties of the soil. Edible Wild Plants: A Hands-On Foray for Foragers and Foodies

Hawai‘i’s year-round growing season offers a wide array of wild food options for intrepid localvores. From seeds to leaves, stems to fruits: you can learn what is edible and what is not in the Edible Wild Plants workshop. In this workshop, participants will interact first-hand with many of these underappreciated edibles. This is discovery only – no picking! In this popular workshop, learn about wild edibles like plantain/laukahi, sow thistle, cat’s ear, and dandelion, among many others. This is hands-on immersion for foragers & foodies!
